Hey Everyone! Here is where we are at on the carbon storage project.
We have struggled to nail down a presentation time, but we finally got one! We will presenting to a fourth grade class at Longfellow elementary on Wednesday of this week. We really need some class mates to come along with us, Tyler is even offering a Sams date to anyone willing to come with.
We are still working on data analysis. It took us awhile to find all of our coefficients for our calculations, as every coefficient is calculated specific to each tree species. We found a more complete source and are running shannon indices of bio diversity and calculating the total biomass volume. We are hoping that the data will reveal that higher biodiversity correlates to higher carbon storage.
We are adapting our data presentation to appeal to a fourth grade audience. We have decided to add more games into our presentation to try and demonstrate that everything is interconnected as an environmental system rather than separate parts. Jesse had a wonderful idea involving string, where each child takes a loop of the same string, and when one child releases their loop, everyone’s loops begin to sag. It will demonstrate the integration of environmental systems in a way children can understand.
Thats where were at! more later
